Ironworkers Local 512 Endorses Chris Coleman for Governor

SAINT PAUL – The Ironworkers Local 512 today endorsed Chris Coleman for Governor. Local 512 represents nearly 2,000 members in Minnesota, and throughout the region, who build Minnesota’s bridges, hospitals, office buildings, and schools. Local 512 is also preparing the workers of tomorrow at training facilities in Saint Paul and Hermantown, Minn.

“Chris Coleman has a vision for building the future of Minnesota,” said Barry Davies, Business Manager, Financial Secretary, and Treasurer of Local 512. “Chris has been a champion for worker rights as the Mayor of Saint Paul. And we know that when he is Governor, labor will have a seat at the table. Ironworkers Local 512 is proud to endorse Chris Coleman for Governor.”

Since 1937, the Ironworkers Local 512 has been involved in almost all of Minnesota’s major construction projects, including roads, bridges, office buildings, and stadiums. Ironworkers also play a critical role in the new green economy. Nearly 18 percent of Minnesota’s energy is generated by wind power, making Minnesota the sixth largest producer of wind energy in the country. Ironworkers play an important role in building Minnesota’s green economy that will put our state on the path to a carbon-free economy.

“No organization better exemplifies what it means to deliver economic security for all Minnesotans,” said Chris Coleman. “They build the bridges that carry our families to work, school, and home. But more than the physical structures, Local 512 is building a better future for their members by fighting for fair pay, worker safety, health care, and a retirement that Ironworkers can depend on. Minnesotans are suffering from growing wage inequality, which correlates to a decline in union membership. At a time when unions are under attack, I am proud to stand with Local 512 and am honored that they are supporting our campaign.”
